To assess, diagnose, and manage the swallow and communication needs of patients.
To manage a caseload of patients with a range of neurological conditions including assessment of eating, drinking and communication.
To ensure the nature of the communication/eating drinking difficulty is communicated sensitively and effectively to all involved, both verbally and in writing, following communication pathways and handover protocols.
To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and care plans and make clinical decisions to set further objectives for intervention.
To work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver a high level of patient care.
To accurately record all patient intervention and plans in the medical notes.
To be responsible for completing NQP competencies, managing own CPD, actively seeking out opportunities and regularly attending CPD events, both internal and external where possible, demonstrating development in clinical, professional and personal skills, critically reflecting on own practice
Participates in staff meetings offering views, ideas and opinions.
Adapt resources to enable service users to be able to actively engage and develop the service, giving feedback about their care.
To support communication in MDT therapy sessions, nursing consultations and external appointments, acting as an advocate for service users with communication difficulties.
Keep up to date with new developments in the field, critically evaluating available research and developing and implementing evidence-based practices on an ongoing basis.
Participate in research projects and clinical audits in own work area as required.
