A gynecologist treats the overall health of their female patients, treating problems and diseases of the female reproductive system such as breast and hormonal problems, urinary tract and pelvic disorders, and cancer of the cervix. Most often than not, a gynecologist is an obstetrician as well.

Dermatologists diagnose skin problems, from mild ones (e.g. sunburn) to severe ones (e.g. skin cancer). They conduct screenings and skin evaluations, and analyze the patients' medical history to determine appropriate treatments.

A cardiologist can carry out tests for a heart murmur or an abnormal heart rhythm. They often treat patients who have had a heart attack, heart failure, or other heart problems. They help make decisions about heart surgery, heart catheterization, and angioplasty and stenting.

Critical Care Nurses will assess a patient's condition, perform diagnostic tests, begin treatments and assist doctors with any required medical procedures. Critical Care Nurses work mainly in hospital emergency rooms or intensive care units (ICUs) or in specialty departments such as cardiac care or pediatrics.

After diagnosis and consultation on the treatment regimen of cancer patients, the oncology nurse practitioner may advise the patient about possible participation in clinical trials. The follow-up, monitoring, and recording of the process is one of the main responsibilities of the oncology nurse practitioner. Results of trial participation are entered into research conclusions and are often published.

They may act as therapists and also prescribe appropriate medications. Although not authorized to conduct psychological testing, they regularly work closely with psychologists and psychiatrists in reviewing test results and determining a course of action.Nurse practitioners can work in a variety of healthcare specialties. And many new nurse practitioner jobs will be available over the next decade, but the position requires several college degrees and a significant amount of training.
