PURPOSE• To be responsible and accountable for the nursing care for a named group of acts as a Nurse Care Manager to one or more patients throughout their stay• To develop and maintain high standards of nursing care, reflecting the beliefs about nursing practice outlined in the floor philosophy• To contribute to the continuity development of this floor PATIENT CARE SKILLS• To be responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care for a named group of patients• To maintain accurate and legible records of care ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS• To lead a team of nurses (in absence of team leader), acknowledging their contribution to patient and decision making• To promote effective communication, liaising with other members of the healthcare team• To act as coordinator, i.e. organizer of ward activity and communications, on a regular basis, in rotation with other registered nurses• To accept responsibility for specific administrative tasks as delegated by the ward manager• To act as mentor to student nurses allocated to the floor• To be aware of the budgetary implementations when prescribing care• To assist in monitoring the safety of the floor personnel, environment and equipment• To ensure hospital policies and procedures are adhered to• To contribute to achieving and maintaining the clinical learning environment PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT• To demonstrate research-based care• To maintain own personal and professional growth• To contribute to the continuing development of the floor HEALTH & SAFETY• Respond appropriately to accidents or untoward clinical incidents/occurrences that arise within the unit and provide accurate documentation • To be conversant with all local policies and procedures and to act accordingly• Ensure the safety of patients and staff and ensure that all incidents are reported to the unit manager• Ensure that all equipment is used safely and effectively
