The monitored 34 bed unit serves a very diverse population of surgical oncology patients which include; ENT/head & neck, Thoracic, Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, Urology, Colorectal and Plastic surgery.This environment allows nurses to gain and improve advanced critical thinking skills, and sharpen their hands-on expertise at the same time. Position SummaryThis position is responsible for coordinating the administration and operation of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program at Univeristy Medical Center New Orleans. The purpose of which is to provide highly skilled nursing care and forensic services to victims of interpersonal violence.Position Duties40% Program Management:Develop, implement and evaluate program policies and protocols.Maintain case database.Maintain supplies and equipment to conduct forensic examinations.Prepare monthly SANE call schedule to provide around the clock coverage.Coordinate staff meetings.Complete grant or other reports as required.40% Supervision and DevelopmentCoordinate the recruitment, training, and credentialing of all SANEs.Ensure ongoing competency of examiners through education activities and conducting quality assurance measures.Ensure that all national standards for SANE are integrated into current practice and that all SANEs are familiar with these standards and abide by them.Perform ongoing evaluation of SANE’s practice to assure the highest standards of practice are maintained.Identify clinical practice issues and implement plan for improvement.Serve as resource for SANEs preparing for court appearance.Provide direct patient care to victims and serve as resource for individual cases performed by staff.Maintain competency and stay informed of new findings and emerging practices in the field through involvement in local, state, and national organizations and professional development activities.10% Professional Collaboration:Work with medical director, emergency department leaders and multidisciplinary hospital departments to ensure effective program function and development.Integrate related policies and procedures into all departments that provide care to affected populations.Participate in and coordinate services among partner agencies and SART (Sexual Assault Response Team).
