This is a full time psychiatric position that embracing a key leadership role in coordinating and developing existing, yet rapidly expanding, primary care - behavioral health integration programming within the facility. This role reports directly to the Director of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health.Psychiatrist will provide a full range of psychiatric services to assigned patients, including:• Assessment, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.• Prescription, direction, and administration of psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.• Medication management of ongoing cases.• Collaboration with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.• Participation in treatment team activities to include the development and periodic review of patient treatment plans.• All services are to be documented in the patient’s electronic medical record.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Active clinical consultation and psychiatric leadership, including in aspects of program development and program evaluation within an expanding integrated care service in the Department of Adult Medicine, including work using the IMPACT model of collaborative care• Development of existing programming in onsite primary care within Gouverneur’s Behavioral Health Clinic• Key coordination of related integrated care initiatives in the Departments of Pediatrics and Women’s Health, and other Gouverneur programs, as they may arise• Engaging in clinical telepsychiatry interventions, as needed.• In-service education for primary care practitioners and other clinical staff at Gouverneur• A role in clinical education of NYU psychiatric residents and medical students• Participation in clinical research as such opportunities arise

Under general direction, handles difficult psychiatric examinations, diagnosis and treatments for patients in a municipal hospital center, a correctional institution or a psychiatric treatment center within the City’s correctional system. Provides consultation and supervision to professional and para-professional staff. May be in charge of a division, ward or unit in one of the above settings. Performs related work.Examples of Typical Tasks• Examines patients or reviews reports prepared by other examining Psychiatrists and determines necessity for further testing, observation or treatment. Conducts clinical conferences to discuss case histories, diagnoses and treatment plans.• Supervises and directs mental health services staff, including Psychologists, Social Workers, Nurses and other professional and para-professional staff. May review the work of Psychiatrists in difficult or atypical cases. Coordinates the assignment of cases for evaluation, testing, observation and treatment.• Is responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of the quality of psychiatric services. May be responsible for the implementation and review of special psychiatric service programs or research projects.• Coordinates and participates in the training of professional and para-professional staff, including Department of Correction personnel.• Prepares reports as required.
