Cath Lab Technologist

A cath lab technologist is a vital team member in the field of cardiovascular technology. They assist doctors during invasive cardiovascular procedures such as angioplasty, cardiac catheterization, and electrophysiology. Cath lab techs ensure that the equipment is in working order prior to surgery and prepare patients for procedures by explaining what will happen and providing reassurance. They also clean, shave, and anesthetize the area of insertion for cardiac catheterization. During procedures, they assist doctors, monitor the patient's vital signs, and report any abnormalities to the cardiologist immediately. In addition, they perform daily non-surgical procedures such as reading and interpreting test procedures, updating medical records, cleaning equipment, and assisting with patient movement and lifting if necessary. General Responsibilities: 1. Ensure equipment is in working order prior to surgery 2. Prepare patients for procedures and provide reassurance 3. Clean, shave, and anesthetize the area of insertion for cardiac catheterization 4. Assist doctors during open-heart surgery and with the insertion of pacemakers or stents 5. Monitor patient's heart rate and vital signs during catheterization 6. Detect and report any abnormalities to the cardiologist immediately 7. Read and interpret test procedures 8. Update medical records 9. Clean equipment 10. Assist with patient movement and lifting if necessary
