Ecologist
Description:
Ecologists are specialist scientists who survey ecosystems and assess the diversity, profusion, and behavior of the different organisms within them. They analyze the organisms' roles within an environment to identify solutions for nature issues and environmental concerns. Ecologists conduct data analysis and field investigations to support their claims, write methodological studies, and strategize techniques to minimize the impact of human activities on ecosystem stability.
General Responsibilities:
1. Visiting sites to undertake surveys of animals, plants, and their environment
2. Researching the impact of construction and other human activity
3. Building computer models to predict effects of construction work
4. Advising on legal regulations in relation to protected species
5. Applying sampling strategies and employing a range of habitat survey techniques, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), aerial photography, records, and maps
6. Keeping up to date with new environmental policies and legislation
7. Contributing ideas about changes to policy and legislation based on ecological findings
