Financial Director

A Financial Director is responsible for the efforts, results, and success of an organization's finance department. They provide financial advice and support to help senior executives make key decisions. Finance directors are members of a senior executive team with responsibility for their company’s financial health. They are often viewed as the member of the board who creates a solid foundation upon which a business can grow. They combine operational and strategic roles, manage accounting and financial control functions, and establish a financial strategy for the profitable long-term growth of the business. General Responsibilities: 1. Set budgets and work closely with department heads to ensure that income and expenditures remain within target, and maintain control over all financial transactions 2. Develop and control the company’s annual operating budget to ensure that all financial targets are met and financial and statutory regulations complied with 3. Provide financial advice and guidance to the company's managers and staff to enable them to achieve their objectives 4. Develop and enforce policies to minimize risk and keep all employees in compliance 5. Ensure that the company reports its financial position accurately 6. As the leader of the financial team, the director ensures that all other financial team members follow legal and company requirements for accurate, compliant financial data 7. Prepare quarterly and annual accounts that present the company’s position in line with generally accepted accounting principles 8. Prepare annual report for shareholders that provides an overview of business performance and financial results 9. Meet journalists, investors, analysts, and shareholders to build confidence in the company and update them on financial performance 10. Work closely with other senior executives, providing a financial and commercial perspective to ensure company growth plans represent sound financial decisions 11. Recommend funding sources for investment programs and calculate the likely return on investment 12. Evaluate the financial potential and risk of merger and acquisition plans 13. Make financial forecasts and weigh in on financial decisions for the company, using their expertise in finance as a guide
