Adolescent Medicine

Adolescent Medicine is a specialized field focused on providing medical care to patients in the adolescent period of development, which begins at puberty and continues until adulthood. These healthcare professionals are specially trained to facilitate effective communication between young individuals and their families. They may work in clinical care, research, or both, ensuring comprehensive and evidence-based approaches to adolescent healthcare. General Responsibilities: 1. Performing physical exams required for driver's permits, college entrance, and sports participation 2. Addressing sports medicine and orthopedic problems, such as scoliosis 3. Managing growth and development issues 4. Treating acute or chronic illnesses, ranging from strep throat to asthma, diabetes, or cerebral palsy 5. Evaluating and managing headaches, chest pain, and other aches 6. Providing gynecologic and reproductive health/sexuality care 7. Assessing and addressing school, learning, and attention problems 8. Offering guidance on nutrition, obesity, and eating disorders 9. Providing prevention and counseling for drug, alcohol, and tobacco use 10. Addressing psychosocial problems including depression, stress, anxiety, self-esteem, and sleep problems 11. Diagnosing and treating acne and other skin conditions
