Clinical Transplantation

Transplant physicians are specialized doctors who oversee the medical care, tests, and medications of patients undergoing transplantation. They do not perform surgery but work closely with the transplant coordinator to coordinate the patient's care until transplantation. In some centers, they also provide follow-up care to the recipient after the transplant. General Responsibilities: 1. Assess patient health 2. Evaluate patients for transplantation in the appropriate transplant clinic 3. Participate in daily clinical decision-making, immunosuppression management, and discharge planning 4. Attend multidisciplinary rounds on the inpatient service 5. Provide preoperative and postoperative care for organ recipients 6. Ensure that surgery patients receive compatible and healthy organs
