A Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist (perinatologist) is a doctor who specializes in providing care for women with complicated or high-risk pregnancies. They work with patients who have a history of previous complicated pregnancies, chronic health conditions, or unexpected medical issues. In collaboration with other healthcare professionals, such as physician assistants, registered nurses, and nursing assistants, they ensure the well-being of both the mother and the developing baby. General Responsibilities: 1. Perform tests and procedures like ultrasounds to monitor the baby's development. 2. Conduct tests to check for genetic disorders and birth defects. 3. Assist in managing pre-existing conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure. 4. Diagnose and manage birth defects or other developing conditions in the baby. 5. Provide post-pregnancy care and address any health problems that may arise. 6. Offer regular prenatal care for women with high-risk pregnancies. 7. Manage the mother's existing health problems during pregnancy. 8. Care for women who experience complications during pregnancy or childbirth. 9. Perform tests and procedures, such as ultrasound, to monitor the growth and development of the baby. 10. Diagnose and manage heart problems and blood disorders in the developing baby, including surgical interventions if necessary. 11. Manage any health problems the mother may experience after pregnancy, such as excessive bleeding, infections, or high blood pressure. 12. Identify risks and provide recommendations for future pregnancies.
