Podiatric surgeons, also known as Foot and ankle surgeons, are physicians who specialize in the study, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. They provide complete medical and surgical care for a variety of conditions that affect people of every age. General Responsibilities: 1. Provide consultations and review medical histories 2. Examine a patient’s leg, ankles, and feet to diagnose diseases, illnesses, or injuries 3. Order additional medical tests (like X-rays, ultrasounds and bone density tests) to form a better diagnosis if necessary 4. Perform foot and ankle surgeries 5. Treat sport-related foot and leg injuries, like fractures 6. Use various podiatric techniques (like casting and laser therapy) to treat deformities and ailments 7. Prescribe joint pain relief medication and foot orthoses that improve mobility 8. Advise patients on foot care and general wellness practices.
