General practitioners are medical doctors who focus on general health and provide care to the adult population. They evaluate patients through exams and tests, diagnose conditions, and provide treatment or referrals to specialists. General practitioners also prescribe medications and therapies and offer information on preventative healthcare. General Responsibilities: 1. Respond to patients' medical/health problems by referring to their history and carrying out diagnosis, investigation, treatment, and referral as appropriate 2. Discuss side-effects, best conditions for use, and possible interactions of medication 3. Contribute to the delivery of patient services with nurses, technicians, and other medical staff 4. Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results 5. Order laboratory tests such as white blood cell count, blood sugar, and x-rays and interpret test results 6. Provide education to patients and families regarding medical conditions and their treatment options as well as preventative care strategies of nutrition, exercise, and hygiene
