Description:
Health visitors are highly trained nurses or midwives who specialize in working with families with children aged under five. Their main role is to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent illness in young children. They work closely with families to ensure that pre-school-age children have the best possible start in life. Health visitors collaborate with various healthcare professionals, including community nursing staff, school nurses, nursery nurses, GPs, social workers, and allied health professionals, to provide comprehensive care and support to families.
General Responsibilities:
1. Provide health advice and education programs to families
2. Offer ante-natal and post-natal support to parents
3. Provide guidance on feeding babies and children
4. Conduct developmental assessments of babies and children
5. Assess the growth and development needs of young children
6. Support children with special needs
7. Advise parents on behavioral management techniques
8. Educate families on reducing risks, preventing accidents, and minimizing injuries
9. Provide information on local services
