Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) work under the supervision of licensed nurses to provide personal care to patients and keep nurses updated on vital information about their conditions. They play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of patients and assisting with various tasks. CNAs are responsible for helping patients with mobility, exercise, and nutrition needs, as well as overseeing their personal hygiene. They also accompany patients to different areas of the hospital for treatment, therapy, or diagnostic testing. Additionally, CNAs maintain detailed charts of their work with patients, which are reviewed by other medical personnel and used for required reporting. Some of the specific tasks performed by nursing assistants include dressing, bathing, and providing skin care to patients, assisting with feeding, mouth and hair care, making beds, and providing toileting assistance and catheter care. They also take vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure. CNAs help patients walk using gait belts, walkers, canes, and other devices, and assist with range-of-motion exercises. They are trained in transferring wheelchair-bound patients using safe patient handling devices and regularly turning and positioning bedridden patients. It is essential for CNAs to report any changes in patients' conditions to the nurse. They are responsible for observing, reporting, documenting, and maintaining safety awareness.
