Description:
An Electrophysiology Technologist (EPT) is a highly skilled professional who performs diagnostic electrophysiology procedures and interventions, such as electrocardiograms, in a clinical setting. They are trained to work with patients of all ages, including pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations. As an expert technologist in EP, the EPT functions independently and is an integral member of the Heart & Vascular Care Procedure Center patient care team. This team includes registered nurses, cardiovascular technologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, cardiology fellows, and faculty physicians. In addition to assisting EP physicians with complex procedures, the EPT also oversees the technical operations required for routine diagnostic through advanced interventional electrophysiology procedures.
General Responsibilities:
1. Prepare the patient for the procedure
2. Ensure that all equipment and instrumentation is in working order
3. Monitor the read-out or recording during the procedure
4. Assist with the lab analysis and interpretation of the data
5. Communicate any issues to the patient's physician or specialist
6. Assist physicians with pacing implementation and installation of permanent devices related to heart and cardiac health
