Description:
Library Assistants perform clerical duties in libraries to aid librarians in the management and operation of a library. They check in and out material at the circulation desk, receive payments for fines, shelve books, and help process new material. Their primary duties include helping customers locate books, checking books in and out at the front desk, and shelving books according to their categorization. Library Assistants are also responsible for assisting customers with internet access and ensuring their technical needs are met.
General Responsibilities:
1. Manage inquiries over the counter, via email or telephone, among other duties.
2. Help customers locate books.
3. Help customers find material online.
4. Check books in and out at the front desk.
5. Sort and shelve books according to their categorization.
6. Register new customers.
7. Maintain and update customer profiles.
8. Maintain records of books taken out and books brought back.
9. Catalogue new arrivals.
10. Assist customers with internet access and ensure their technical needs are met.
11. Organize the repair of damaged books.
12. Inspect the condition of books before and after check-out to ascertain any damage on behalf of the customer.
13. Assist with library events and reading sessions.
14. Manage the payment of fines.
15. Settle any disruptions or disturbances in the library.
