A Colon and Rectal Surgeon, or Colorectal Surgeon, is a highly experienced subspecialist physician who specializes in caring for people with diseases of the small intestine, colon, rectum, and anus. They also treat intestine-related conditions of the liver, urinary tract, and female reproductive system. Utilizing both medical and surgical techniques, they diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including infections, incontinence, inflammatory bowel disease, and colon cancer. General Responsibilities: 1. Review and evaluate a patient’s medical history and record 2. Educate patients about their intestinal health and disease prevention 3. Perform physical exams and vital signs 4. Order and analyze laboratory and imaging tests 5. Prescribe appropriate medications 6. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic diseases and conditions that affect the intestines and rectum, pelvic floor disorders, and incontinence 7.
