Description:
A Proctologist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats diseases related to the colon. They are surgeons who diagnose and treat disorders of the rectum and anus. They carry out various investigations to identify diseases and provide the optimum treatment-management.
General Responsibilities:
Diagnosing the patient’s problem, determining a course of action, prescribing the proper medications
Taking part in the actual treatment depending on the particular condition affecting the patient.
Provides endoscopy of the rectum and colon, hemorrhoids, fistulas and fissures, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, polyps, benign tumors and colorectal and anal malignancies.
Manage diseases of the intestinal tract.
Helps identify abnormalities in the anus and rectum.
Examines the entire colon and screens for colorectal cancer.
Diagnoses diseases and disorders utilizing techniques, such as discussion of symptoms and medical history with patient, instrumental inspection of rectum and colon,
Examination of diagnostic images of affected parts, and evaluation of laboratory test results.
Treats diseases and disorders by surgical removal or repair of diseased or malfunctioning parts
Prescribe medication and suggestions for adaptation of patient's living habits.
Frequently work with laboratory tests in order to figure out an aspect of the condition affecting the patient.
