An infectious disease (ID) specialist is a highly skilled medical professional who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by microorganisms. These microorganisms include bacteria, viruses (such as HIV and hepatitis), fungi, and parasites. Infectious disease specialists are experts in testing blood or other body fluids to identify specific antibodies and cells produced by the immune system to fight harmful foreign substances. They play a crucial role in diagnosing infectious diseases and providing non-surgical treatment options. General Responsibilities: 1. Managing appropriate antibiotic choice, duration of therapy, route of delivery, and adverse drug reactions 2. Identifying and treating potentially life-threatening infections 3. Reviewing patient information from referrals made by other medical professionals 4. Running diagnostic tests on patients with unidentified or drug-resistant infections 5. Observing protocols in other healthcare facilities to identify possible contagion hazards 6. Reviewing population studies on infection spread and providing education to reduce risks
