Additionally, they ensure the quality of diagnostic images before patients are discharged and establish radiation protection standards for both patients and staff. Nuclear Medicine Specialists also collaborate with other medical specialists to interpret imaging data and formulate diagnoses, and prescribe radionuclides and dosages for individual patients. They review procedure requests and patients' medical histories to determine the applicability of procedures and radioisotopes to be used, and provide guidance to nuclear medicine technologists or technicians regarding dosages, techniques, positions, and projections.
