Music Therapist
Description:
A Music Therapist focuses on using music as a form of therapy to treat individuals suffering from a variety of issues. They provide music therapy consultations and services to clients of all ages who are experiencing emotional or mental health problems, learning or physical disabilities, or physical illnesses. Within a therapeutic environment, Music Therapists encourage patients to engage with music through playing, listening, or movement as part of their rehabilitation program. They collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to determine eligibility for music therapy and design interventions based on therapeutic goals to improve clients' psychological, physical, and social health. Music Therapists also monitor clients during sessions, measure the effectiveness of interventions, and record progress through periodic recordings and videotaping. Additionally, they plan and provide appropriate music sessions, actively participate in sessions, and explore various musical styles and sounds with clients through singing, percussion, using different instruments, and improvisation.
General Responsibilities:
1. Collaborating with interdisciplinary team to ascertain whether individuals qualify for music therapy.
2. Designing musical interventions based on therapeutic goals to improve clients' psychological, physical, and social health.
3. Providing music therapy sessions.
4. Inviting clients to interact by encouraging them to sing and dance.
5. Monitoring clients during musical interventions and measuring effectiveness of sessions.
6. Recording and videotaping clients on a periodic basis to measure effectiveness and progress.
7. Planning and providing appropriate music sessions.
8. Actively participating in music sessions and encouraging clients to do the same.
9. Exploring a variety of musical styles and sounds with clients through singing, percussion, using different instruments, and improvisation.
