Dramatherapists are professionals who utilize theater techniques such as role-playing, storytelling, acting, and performance to assist individuals in working through behavioral problems, processing trauma, fostering personal growth, and achieving various therapeutic goals. They begin by assessing the needs of their clients and then determine the most suitable approaches to meet those needs. Drama therapists employ text, performance, or ritual to enhance the therapeutic and creative process.
General Responsibilities:
1. Assessing and monitoring clients' needs
2. Planning and providing appropriate treatment
3. Liaising with and taking referrals from other professionals including doctors, psychologists, and other therapists
4. Maintaining confidential records and case notes
5. Helping clients understand and address inner conflicts through drama processes such as role-play, storytelling, improvisation, and script work
6. Enabling clients to learn new skills and build confidence
7. Making use of props, equipment, and materials
8. Writing reports
9. Attending short courses and workshops to keep skills up to date.
