They are professionals called upon to develop and implement new methods of cataloging patient records and systems. Health informatics professionals are responsible for analyzing data to help facilitate decisions and actions, developing data-driven solutions to improve patient health, designing and implementing tools to measure data, patient care effectiveness, and processes, and facilitating the communication and translation of regulatory and IT requirements between departments. They are also tasked with developing, maintaining, and ultimately facilitating the usage of various medical records systems for the healthcare organization to which they are assigned. They interact with other healthcare administrators to provide access to data to be used in policy making, interview healthcare providers and patients, observe healthcare service delivery procedures, and collect electronic healthcare data. Additionally, they develop health information systems that support the collection, sharing, standardization, and integration of healthcare data, provide technical support, optimize network security, and maintain databases, and ensure compliance in healthcare information management regulations. They also document processes, maintain records, and prepare reports.
