Health informatics professionals use their knowledge of healthcare, information systems, databases, and information technology security to gather, store, interpret, and manage the massive amount of data generated when care is provided to patients. They are professionals called upon to develop and implement new methods of cataloging patient records and systems. As healthcare evolves to incorporate modern methods of keeping track of patient data, increasing numbers of healthcare facilities are recognizing the need for dedicated professionals who understand both data systems and medical policies and procedures. Health informatics professionals are responsible for analyzing data to help facilitate decisions and actions, developing data-driven solutions to improve patient health, designing and implementing tools to measure data, patient care effectiveness, and processes, and facilitating the communication and translation of regulatory and IT requirements between departments. They are also tasked with developing, maintaining, and ultimately facilitating the usage of various medical records systems for the healthcare organization to which they are assigned. They interact with other healthcare administrators to provide access to data to be used in policy making, interview healthcare providers and patients, observe healthcare service delivery procedures, and collect electronic healthcare data. Additionally, they develop health information systems that support the collection, sharing, standardization, and integration of healthcare data, provide technical support, optimize network security, and maintain databases, and ensure compliance in healthcare information management regulations. They also document processes, maintain records, and prepare reports. General Responsibilities: 1. Analyzing data to help facilitate decisions and actions 2. Developing data-driven solutions to improve patient health 3. Designing and implementing tools to measure data, patient care effectiveness, and processes 4. Facilitating the communication and translation of regulatory and IT requirements between departments 5. Developing, maintaining, and facilitating the usage of various medical records systems 6. Interacting with other healthcare administrators to provide access to data for policy making 7. Interviewing healthcare providers and patients, observing healthcare service delivery procedures, and collecting electronic healthcare data 8. Developing health information systems that support the collection, sharing, standardization, and integration of healthcare data 9. Providing technical support, optimizing network security, and maintaining databases 10. Ensuring compliance in healthcare information management regulations 11. Documenting processes, maintaining records, and preparing reports
