Description:
A Cardiac First Responder (CFR) is a highly trained individual who specializes in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Their primary role is to respond to actual or potential life-threatening emergencies, such as cardiac arrests, heart attacks, strokes, or choking incidents. CFRs play a critical role in providing immediate care and support to keep a person alive until expert medical assistance can be provided. They possess the necessary skills and knowledge to assess the situation, administer CPR, and utilize an AED if necessary. CFRs are trained to recognize the signs of a life-threatening emergency and respond in an effective, safe, and appropriate manner. They are also responsible for reporting and recording their actions and interventions accurately and providing a comprehensive handover to emergency medical services.
General Responsibilities:
1. Recognize the signs of a life-threatening emergency
2. Respond in an effective, safe, and appropriate manner to a life-threatening emergency, utilizing basic life support skills
3. Retrieve and appropriately use an automated external defibrillator during a cardiac arrest
4. Report and record their actions and interventions appropriately
5. Provide a comprehensive handover to emergency medical services
