A Critical Care Paramedic is a highly skilled healthcare professional who assesses and manages critically ill patients during transport between healthcare facilities by ground or rotor. They provide first-line medical or emergency care for sick and injured people at the scene and deliver high-level care to critically ill patients while transporting them to healthcare facilities. Critical Care Paramedics work under stress caused by emergencies or danger and perform life-saving tasks in stressful situations. They assess a patient's condition, record vital signs, and relevant medical history. They are trained to restore and stabilize heart rhythm on pulseless, non-breathing patients and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Critical Care Paramedics also administer intravenous medications, manage physical trauma, and monitor a patient's cardiac and respiratory performance. They monitor cardiac patients using electrocardiographs and oversee chest tubes and automated transport ventilators. Additionally, they give initial treatment at emergency scenes, take vital signs, assist in extricating trapped victims, and drive the ambulance to and from scenes and treatment centers. Critical Care Paramedics complete detailed reports about emergency trips to ensure accurate documentation of patient care.
