Description:
Primary care paramedics play a crucial role in the healthcare system by providing emergency medical care to patients in various settings. They are responsible for transporting injured individuals from emergency scenes to hospitals, between healthcare facilities, and before they are seen by Emergency Department staff. In addition to transportation, primary care paramedics also administer medications, utilize basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and engage in semi-automated defibrillation to stabilize patients.
General Responsibilities:
1. Responding to emergency calls and delivering professional paramedic care to patients during and after medical emergencies
2. Preparing patients for transport and monitoring their condition throughout the journey
3. Communicating with the hospital emergency department to provide updates on the nature of illness and injury
4. Completing patient and ambulance documentation during transport
5. Assisting with transport arrangements to ensure smooth and timely transfers
6. Supporting the nursing department by performing tasks such as patient registration, portering, triage, EKG's, oxygen administration, ventolin masks, glucometers, and IV insertions
