Description:
A Diagnostic Radiographer is a healthcare professional responsible for positioning patients, setting up x-ray machines, and studying the results. They primarily focus on taking x-rays of patients' chests and spines, working closely with x-ray technicians to ensure accurate results. In addition to preparing patients and taking x-rays, these radiographers are trained to administer and interpret x-rays, form treatment plans, and assist with intervention processes such as kidney stone removal. They collaborate closely with clinicians and other doctors to provide support and assist with various tasks.
General Responsibilities:
1. Assess patients for clinical requirements to determine appropriate radiographic techniques.
2. Perform a range of radiographic examinations on patients to produce high-quality images.
3. Take responsibility for radiation safety in the work area, including equipment checks.
4. Manage referrals to ensure patients receive the lowest possible radiation dose.
5. Supervise visiting staff and patients in radiation work areas.
6. Assist in more complex radiological examinations, collaborating with radiologists and surgeons.
7. Provide support and reassurance to patients, considering their physical and psychological needs.
8. Supervise radiography and imaging support assistants.
9. Stay updated with health and safety guidelines, including ionising radiation regulations, to ensure personal and others' protection.
