Interventional Radiographer
Description:
Interventional radiographers are highly skilled professionals who perform interventional imaging procedures. They utilize various radiologic imaging techniques, such as x-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, to guide minimally invasive treatments. These treatments involve the use of small instruments, like catheters and needles, which are navigated through blood vessels to diagnose and treat a wide range of diseases. Interventional radiographers play a crucial role in providing accurate imaging services to both inpatients and outpatients, assisting in the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions. They also perform procedures like angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, embolization, radiofrequency ablation, and biopsies. With a strong focus on patient care, they ensure that patients are well-prepared for procedures, receive clear instructions, and experience minimal anxiety. Operating imaging equipment and adhering to radiation safety practices are also key responsibilities of interventional radiographers.
General Responsibilities:
1. Provide imaging services to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of inpatients and outpatients
2. Perform radiographic and related procedures to demonstrate vascular structures for interpretation and therapeutic intervention
3. Perform angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, embolization, radiofrequency ablation, and biopsies
4. Provide appropriate patient care and recognize patient's conditions essential for successful completion of procedures
5. Prepare patients for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety
6. Operate imaging equipment and accessories
7. Participate in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices
8. Perform imaging procedures in accordance with safe radiation safety practices
