PET Technologist

PET Technologists are responsible for utilizing radiopharmaceuticals, oral and IV contrast agents to perform a variety of diagnostic PET, PET/CT, and CT examinations. They work with radioactive drugs for diagnosis and medical research, preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients. These professionals operate high-level imaging equipment to study the absorption of drugs and diagnose infections or disorders. They collaborate with doctors, medical physicists, nuclear pharmacists, computer specialists, nurses, and administrative staff to treat patients of all ages. General Responsibilities: 1. Performing PET scans 2. Capturing high-quality diagnostic images 3. Administering radiopharmaceuticals 4. Demonstrating complete understanding of PET technology 5. Possessing in-depth knowledge of imaging techniques, computer processing, and radiopharmacy 6. Assuring proper labeling of images including anatomy and correct patient information 7. Acquiring and analyzing daily quality control to assure quality operation of PET and CT equipment 8. Accurately preparing, dispensing, and administering all radiopharmaceuticals, IV/oral/rectal contrast, and medications necessary for PET/CT imaging 9. Consistently following departmental protocols to produce high-quality exams 10. Verifying physician orders, utilizing double identifiers for patient ID, and obtaining appropriate history for exam type 11. Ensuring patient safety during procedures 12. Performing body scanning to check for areas showing signs of abnormality 13. Checking different areas in the body, administering radioactive drugs to patients, and monitoring their internal reactions 14. Keeping track of safety measures to protect patients during scans 15. Conducting patient history taking and answering all relevant queries before procedures
